The two-year building construction program is designed to offer varied experiences to help prepare the student for entry into the building industry. Building construction offers many interesting and challenging opportunities for the aspiring student. Broad areas of training include those of brick laying, carpentry, roofing, plumbing, painting and blueprint reading.

· Trim and cabinetry

 

Employment opportunities are expected to increase steadily. Wages depend upon job location, skill level and experience; but skilled craftsmen are among the highest wage earners.

1827 Fundamentals of Building Construction: This course will introduce students to basic knowledge of building plans and materials and safe work habits used in general building construction occupations.

1825 Foundations and Framing:  This course will introduce students to safe, efficient and acceptable practices involved in estimating for and constructing building foundations and rough framing.  

1829 Masonry and Plumbing:  This course will introduce students to safe, efficient and acceptable practices involved in estimating for and constructing masonry and plumbing systems.
 

1823 Finish Carpentry:  This course will introduce students to safe, efficient and acceptable practices involved in estimating for and installing interior and exterior wall, ceiling and floor coverings.

1822 Blueprint Reading for Construction:  This course is designed to assist students in understanding and reading industrial prints. Students will gain skills and knowledge required to interpret architectural, electrical, machine and welding prints.

1824 Advanced Framing Practices:  This course will include instruction in the proper preparation for and constructing foundation walls, as well as, instruction in frame carpentry skills.

1826 Exterior Finish Carpentry:  This course will include instruction and hands-on application of  exterior finishes of a construction project.

1828 Building Construction Applications:  Students will learn to interpret and apply blueprint readings to construction projects.  The students will learn how to prepare materials lists and estimate costs of construction projects, In addition to working on the hands-on construction projects.
