The
Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center, a career and technical education (CTE)
institution , is located between Grantsville, West Virginia and
Glenville, West Virginia on State Route 5. Our school opened as
part of Calhoun and Gilmer Counties' public education systems in August
of 1975. For over 30 years, we have been offering a variety of
occupational training programs designed to prepare our graduates for the
workplace or to continue their training at a college or university.
Career Center faculty and staff are highly trained
professionals proficient in their areas of expertise. They strive
to have their secondary and post-secondary students excel academically
and display social skills that are considered acceptable behavior in the
workplace.
Choosing to become a
student at the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center has proven to be a
beneficial one for those that have completed a training program at our
facility. Our history indicates that we provide an excellent
atmosphere in which to learn, while ensuring that our students work
toward the characteristics that will allow them to be caring and
contributing members of society.
Quality training
begins in an up-to-date facility, we constantly gather new information,
ideas, equipment advice, and current work practices from our Partners in
Education. We make use of various teaching techniques that include
current textbooks, written and oral reports, specific program related
materials, work-based learning, computer usage skills, and hands-on
activities that encourages all students to achieve while focusing on a
program of study.
We have developed
articulation agreements (contracts) with many area colleges and
universities which allow our students to earn Advanced College credits
or EDGE credits,
while completing their training at the Career Center. College
credits earned through our programs are free of charge. Students
must meet college or university requirements. College credits
earned through EDGE (Earn A Degree Graduate Early) are also available in
most of our programs and are free of charge.
We strive to give
the students and adults of Calhoun and Gilmer counties as well as those
in surrounding communities the opportunity to master the qualifications
necessary to meet the occupational demands of an ever-changing global
workplace.
